Walking Tall

The original “Walking Tall”, which came out in 1973, is based on a true story about a wrestler, whose wife wants him to calm down, in his small home town of Tennessee, where he will go back into the workforce with his father. But Buford Pusser, starred by Joe Don Baker, becomes shocked by realizing all the corruption going on in the town and decides to do something about it. After he goes to the local casino and finds out the craps table is being played with illegal dice, he gets into an argument with the head of the table and ends up fighting 10 different corrupt security guards before he gets taken down.

On the bus, in the locker room, or anywhere else before a game, most athletes tend to listen to some kind of rap or rock to pump them up before a game. For some people its 2Pac or Eminem and for others it is Limp Bizkit. But instead of listening to something that would get me jumping, I listen to music that slows down my mind and my body. This allows me to be relaxed and focused during a time that is typically marked by energy, stress, impatience, and anxiety. The theme of these songs is more in the beat than in the actual lyrics because while attempting to concentrate before a game, I am usually more focused in something that can relax me, than what is actually being said. Music that I listen to before games is different from when I am just listening to music for the sake of it.

Athletic Presidents

This interview done by Brooke Gladstone, titled Endgame, was focused toward the political public that was involved with sports. This piece of On the Media was a comedic piece about how Bush and Kerry are related to sports. Throughout the piece, separate videos were played of Kerry and Bush with an announcer in the background commenting on what they were doing. Kerry was shown hunting and being a hockey player, while Bush was shown throwing out the first pitch of last year’s World Series. That was only fitting for Bush since he was once the owner of the Texas Rangers, a Major League baseball team.
