Hello,

Does anyone have any statistics on mathematics requirements for jobs? I keep reading things like, the Dept of Labor says that 80% of new jobs, or all jobs, by 2010 etc. will require mathematics and have had trouble tracking down the sources of (and methodology behind) these projections, many of which seem exaggerated.

Also, if anyone is interested in writing to me (off list is fine) about concerns with/support for using "most jobs will require math" as the primary rationale for why it's important to improve mathematics education, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts (I'm new to this list, not sure whether it's appropriate to throw out a question like this for general discussion -- just something I've been thinking about a lot lately).

thanks
