Tenure-track Position in Mathematics Education

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at The College of New
Jersey (TCNJ) invites outstanding applicants for a tenure-track
Assistant or Associate Professor in Mathematics Education, starting
August 2009. Teaching and research are mutually supportive activities at
TCNJ. Candidates should be strongly committed to the teacher-scholar
model in a primarily undergraduate, residential institution, to
maintaining both high quality teaching and an active and productive
research program, and to encouraging and engaging highly motivated
undergraduates in intensive, individual work both inside and outside the
classroom (e.g., undergraduate research, independent study). Faculty
members also serve as academic advisors and have service
responsibilities within the College. The Mathematics and Statistics
Department is housed in a modern building that offers excellent
facilities. For further information about our program, please visit:
http://www.tcnj.edu/~mathstat/ <http://www.tcnj.edu/%7Emathstat/>.

We seek broadly trained candidates who have potential to contribute
collaboratively to interdisciplinary curricular and scholarly efforts
within the School of Science, School of Education, and at the College. A
doctorate in Mathematics Education, Mathematics, or Statistics, with a
strong background and interest in K-12 mathematics education, are
required. The successful candidate will teach Mathematics methods and
content courses, supervise student teachers, and conduct research in
mathematics education. Typical teaching load is 2 to 3 courses per
semester.

TCNJ is a highly selective, public institution that has earned national
recognition for its commitment to excellence. TCNJ emphasizes the
residential experience for its 5,900 undergraduate students, who benefit
from a 12-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio and an average class size of
only 20 students. TCNJ is one of only five public institutions included
on /Barron//’//s Profiles of American Colleges/ list of the 75 “most
competitive” colleges and universities in the United States, and of
those five, TCNJ is the only primarily undergraduate institution
included. TCNJ’s campus encompasses 289 beautiful tree-lined acres in
suburban Ewing, NJ, which is located between Trenton and Princeton in
the historic Delaware Valley, and is convenient to Philadelphia, New
York, the Jersey shore, and the Pocono Mountains.

To apply, candidates should submit a letter of application highlighting
their interest and qualifications; current curriculum vitae; statement
of teaching philosophy; statement of research objectives; copies of
graduate and undergraduate transcripts; and have three letters of
recommendation sent to: Math Education Search, Department of Mathematics
and Statistics, The College of New Jersey, P.O. Box 7718, Ewing, NJ
08628-0718. Review of applications will begin October 15, 2008 and will
continue until the position is filled.

To enrich education through diversity, TCNJ is an Affirmative
Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and members of underrepresented
groups are encouraged to apply.
