UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO

 

Position Title:  Assistant Professor, Mathematics Education
Position Number:  F99898

 

Qualifications and Experience:

Doctorate in Mathematics Education with graduate coursework in
mathematics or Doctorate in Mathematics with demonstrable achievement in
mathematics education research is required; ABD will be considered
provided that Doctorate is received within one year of the starting
date. Strong potential for active involvement in the Ph.D. program in
educational mathematics is required.  Candidate must provide evidence of
potential for teaching effectiveness and potential for research in
mathematics education. Teaching experience at the K-12 level and/or
experience with pre-service and in-service teachers is desirable, as is
experience with grant writing. Preference may be given to candidates who
demonstrate a knowledge of current trends in elementary or secondary
school mathematics education.

 

Position Description: 

Tenure track, nine month appointment, in the School of Mathematical
Sciences.  Primary teaching responsibilities will be in elementary or
secondary teacher education programs, graduate mathematics education,
and undergraduate mathematics content.  Duties will include working with
graduate students and ultimately directing dissertations.  Full-time
load consists of nine hours of teaching per semester in addition to
research and service.  May include partner schools or off-campus
teaching assignments.  Interaction with the UNC Mathematics and Science
Teaching Institute http://mast.unco.edu/ is encouraged. 

 

Salary and Benefits: 

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Benefits
available include health, life, and dental insurance, as well as a
selection of several defined contribution retirement programs.
Dependents and spouses of UNC employees who are employed as 0.5 FTE or
above are entitled to and eligible for Dependent Tuition Grants.  These
tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges.   Further
requirements may exist.  Other benefits may be available based on
position.  Opportunities for summer instruction may be available.
