MATHEMATICS EDUCATION-Full-Time, Tenure Track
Full-time, academic year beginning Fall 2009. The Mathematics
Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA is seeking tenure-track
faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in
mathematics education. Responsibilities include teaching content
courses for prospective K-12 teachers, teaching other mathematics
classes, teaching a methods course for prospective secondary
teachers, supervising student teachers, presenting at teacher in-
service programs, and working with the teacher education programs of
the University. Excellence in teaching, a strong commitment to
continued scholarly activity, and departmental service are expected.
Doctorate in mathematics education with the equivalent of a Master's
Degree in mathematics, or a Doctorate in mathematics with
demonstrated commitment to teacher education. Pre-college teaching
experience is desired. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
Cal Poly, part of the California State University system, is noted
for its programs in the sciences and engineering. The campus is
located on the central coast of California and has an enrollment of
19,000+ students in Undergraduate and Masters Degree programs. The
Mathematics Department has 30 tenured/tenure-track faculty, a small
master's degree program, and more than 200 undergraduate majors with
approximately half of the students preparing to teach secondary
mathematics. New faculty will be joining an active group of
Mathematics Education faculty with current projects that include a
California Department of Education Mathematics and Science
Partnership grant that provides professional development to local
middle school teachers, and a NSF-funded Noyce Scholarship program
that supports undergraduate mathematics majors going into the field
of teaching. There is a classroom devoted to math education equipped
with manipulatives, graphing calculators, and computers. You can find
