***Mathematics Education Position***
The Department of Mathematics at Central Michigan University invites
applications for a tenure track position in Mathematics Education at
the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2009.
CMU is an innovative doctoral research institution recognized for
strong undergraduate education and a range of focused graduate
programs and research. Departmental programs benefit from a variety of
diverse resources including the NSF-funded research experience for
undergraduate program. CMU is a student-focused university with
opportunities for leadership, internships, and off-campus volunteer
programs. Established in 1892, CMU has an enrollment of 27,000
students, including approximately 20,000 students on the university’s
main campus located in Mount Pleasant, a mid-Michigan community of
approximately 25,000 permanent residents. A recently developed
tourist destination point, Mount Pleasant has retained its small-town
flavor and offers outstanding outdoor recreation opportunities.
Candidates must have a doctorate (or ABD with completion by Fall 2009)
in mathematics education. CMU offers undergraduate and graduate
degree programs in mathematics education and a Ph.D. in mathematics
with a concentration in the teaching of college mathematics. The
successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of
undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics education at the
elementary, secondary, and/or collegiate level as well as
undergraduate courses in mathematics. In addition, the successful
candidate will be expected to apply for external funding, and to
conduct research in mathematics education at the elementary,
secondary, or collegiate level. Effective communication skills, a
commitment to mathematics teacher education, research experience in
mathematics education, and demonstrated potential for excellence in
teaching are required. Experience teaching mathematics courses for
elementary or secondary education students and/or teaching at the K-12
level is desirable. Salary is competitive and benefits include
