The Division of Science and Mathematics Education is co-administered  
by the Colleges of Natural Science and Education with the College of  
Natural Science as the lead.  DSME is seeking a tenure system faculty  
scholar at the senior (associate or full) level as part of an ongoing  
priority initiative in mathematics education. MSU is committed to  
strategically increasing its capacity to provide national leadership  
in mathematics education scholarship by building on our long-standing  
record of excellence in mathematics education research, curriculum  
development, and teacher education, and will continue to provide  
outstanding teaching of undergraduate and graduate students in  
mathematics education, teacher education, and mathematics.

We seek faculty candidates with primary research interests in  
mathematics education, and we especially encourage applications from  
those with expertise in mathematics teaching and learning in K-12  
school contexts, and /or undergraduate level.

The faculty in mathematics education at MSU spans several academic  
units and works collaboratively to address cross-university needs and  
responsibilities, with coordination provided through the Division of  
Science and Mathematics Education. Joint appointments and other cross- 
departmental and cross-college arrangements are possible and encouraged.

All candidates are expected to have earned a doctorate in mathematics  
education, a record of exceptional scholarly accomplishment, a strong  
mathematics background, and evidence of a capacity to contribute to  
the intellectual, research, and instructional life of MSU. Senior  
candidates must demonstrate evidence of success in obtaining and  
leading funded research projects, as well as participation in  
interdisciplinary work; a pattern of national leadership in  
mathematics education.

All scholars will conduct research and inquiry and teach  
undergraduate, master and doctoral level courses. Additional duties  
will vary depending on departmental placement and rank, university and  
academic unit education needs, and the candidate's experience and  
interest. Faculty will be involved in continuing efforts to foster  
collaborations between the Colleges of Natural Science and Education  
and the K-12 community. Senior candidates will also be expected to  
provide leadership in MSU's mathematics education research programs,  
establish interdisciplinary collaborations and school-university  
partnerships, and provide mentoring for junior faculty.

A complete application package consists of a cover letter, a  
curriculum vita, two examples of representative scholarly writing, a  
personal teaching philosophy statement, and three letters of reference  
(two to address research, and one to address teaching). The candidate
