Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics
Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure track,
academic year, assistant/associate professorship of mathematics position in
the Lyman Briggs School, an undergraduate, residential, liberal arts
science program within the College of Natural Science. Candidates must
have a Ph.D. in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics and a
research record commensurate with an appointment at the assistant or
associate professor rank. Preference will be given to applicants with at
least five years experience and who are particularly passionate about
teaching mathematics to undergraduates. Duties include teaching two of the
four Lyman Briggs mathematics courses offered each semester and supervising
undergraduate teaching assistants.
This position offers exciting opportunities to collaborate with
faculty in the Department of Mathematics, the Division of Science and
Mathematics Education, the College of Education, and the Drew Science
Enrichment Program on questions about the teaching and learning of
mathematics at the undergraduate level. The Briggs School environment
offers additional opportunities for integrating mathematics with the other
science courses.
A complete application package consists of a cover letter, curriculum
vitae, a representative scholarly paper, a personal teaching philosophy
statement, a list of undergraduate mathematics courses taught in the last
five years, and the names and addresses of three references, all sent in a

November 1, 2000; later submissions may be considered if suitable
