[RUME] Combinatorics research?

Are you familiar with any research work on teaching / learning
combinatorics or combinatorial thinking?

 One of my doctoral students is interested in pursuing a study on
this topic. This student is interested mostly in undergraduate level,
however any awareness of what was done with or about school age
students will be helpful. Electronic searchers revealed very little.
(We are aware of reseach by Fischbein and English and work by Maher,
Can someone point out to Batanero's work in English?)

Anything would be helpful.
